Ethan's Writing - Education BikeAbout–the Mediterranean Ethan spent 271 days in most of the countries on the shores of the Mediterranean, from September 25, 1997, to June 30, 1998, as part of BikeAbout–the Mediterranean, an educational Internet adventure – the first "wired" circumnavigation of the Mediterranean Sea by bicycle – that promoted peace and cooperative understanding through cycling, travel and the improved use of technology in learning.
To read the 150-plus educational reports written for and read by thousands upon thousands of students from around the world, and all about the countries visited and cultures encountered, visit the BikeAbout–the Mediterranean website. Ethan final-edited all of the travel dispatches from this destination, but wrote those linked to from this page.
Oxfam International Youth Parliament/Partnerships Ethan helped create materials for and then facilitate the "Tech Solutions" (in 2000) and "Education" (in 2004) working group as part of Oxfam Community Aid Abroad's inaugural initiative (replicated in 2004) to bring together 300 youth activists and young development workers from 150 countries. OIYP today is a growing global network that serves as an arena for discussion, networking and action.
U.S.-China Teachers Exchange Program As an editorial assistant, Ethan wrote and designed publicity and communications materials (brochure, regular newsletter) for this program, then under the umbrella of the American Council of Learned Societies.
TC Innovations Ethan wrote new content for the award-winning New Teachers Academy of TC Innovations, part of Columbia University's Teachers College.
Vanguard High School As an educator at Vanguard, open for its first year, Ethan participated in the design and writing of the alternative school’s curriculum, based on collaborative teaching models.
